TOP 5 FAVOURITE HIGHLIGHTERS
As of right now these are my top 5 favourite highlighters. For those who don’t know what highlighter is, it’s basically a product that attracts light to your face, creating the illusion of brightness and height. It goes hand in hand with contouring, and is applied to the parts of the face you want to bring forward; i.e. cheekbones, nose, cupids bow, and wherever else you might want! (contouring is the opposite, darker matte shades in the places you want to push back, i.e. hollows of cheeks, down the sides of the nose, forehead and again wherever else you might need). Finding a great highlighter can be like christmas morning (for me anyway), one that has not too much glitter, just the right amount of pigmentation, that makes you look glowy but not shiny or oily. Here’s a list of my favourite ones, starting with my ultimate favourite…
1- ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS GLOW KIT- £39.00/$40.00 CULT BEAUTY ONLINE AND ANASTASIA.COM
I have nothing but amazing things to say about this highlighting palette. With four individual shades of highlighter, you are literally given highlighter for every part of the face and every skin tone. My favourite shade that works the best on my skin tone is Crushed Pearl, which is a soft pink colour that literally glides onto the skin giving the most beautiful sheen ever. I like using the shade Mimosa which is a more golden brown shade with undertones of plum, for around my forehead and cheekbones if I’m feeling really glam. Anastasia Beverly Hills Products are all consistently good so be sure to check out all the different ranges of highlighters they have to offer!
2- MARY LOU-MANIZER BY THE BALM COSMETICS- £17.49/$24.00 AT SUPERDRUG AND THEBALM.COM
One of the best highlighters I have ever used and still really affordable unlike majority of the others. Having already been a huge fan of The Balm Cosmetics I decided to test out this Mary Lou-Manizer highlighter and I was amazed. It is so highly pigmented and such great quality for a drugstore brand, and has the most beautiful sheen to it when applied to the face. I love how quirky The Balm’s products are with their packaging and their names, and this highlighter is a definite winner for anyone who’s looking for that high quality without the ridiculous price tag.
3- HOURGLASS AMBIENT LIGHTING POWDER- £59.00/$62.00 AT SPACE NK AND SEPHORA
This was one of the first highlighters that I ever actually bought. Hourglass brought out powder highlighters way before anyone else jumped on the train. I remember thinking that £59 for a highlighter was actually stupid, until I actually tried the product in store. This highlighting palette has the most silky smooth texture to it out of all of my favourites. The quality is so clear from packaging to product and even though it is a lot of money it is really one of those products you cherish with your life and only use on special occasions. Such a beautiful highlighter, but we could do with it being a tiny bit cheaper!
4- BENEFIT HIGH BEAM- £19.50/26.00 AT BENEFIT STORES
I tend to stay away from liquid highlighters because I use a lot of setting powder, so I think it completely defeats the purpose of that beautiful glow you just put on to then go and set your face. This product by Benefit however, has been my go to highlighter for literally every summer holiday since they brought it out. Its perfect for those days when your not wearing a lot of makeup but you still want to look glowing and gorgeous. I mix this with some tinted moisturiser or BB cream, to make my skin look really glowy but still allowing me that coverage.
5- BECCA SHIMMERING SKIN PERFECTOR- £30/$38.00 AT SPACE NK AND SEPHORA
I love the brand Becca because they are consistent with the quality of their products. Their Shimering Skin Perfector is one of the best highlighters on the market right now. It is highly pigmented, and gives the most beautiful glow to the skin without it looking cakey or overly shiny. I have nothing but amazing things to say about Becca cosmetics because they continue to create such high quality products that live up to expectation and also are presented in beautiful packaging. Becca is in the higher price point but believe me- if your going to spend your money spend it there because they won’t disappoint you.
